Top Tips for Avoiding Too Much Baggage Weight During Flights

Flying is one of the most convenient ways to get around, but it does come with its own challenges. One of these challenges is that you might not be able to take as much baggage onboard your flight as you would like because too much weight can cause problems for the aircraft. To avoid this problem, here are some top tips to reduce your baggage weight:

Pack Lighter Clothes and Shoes

packingIf you take a look at SouthWest Airlines Carry On rules, you will need less space if you pack light clothing items such as pants or shirts than if you pack bulky dress wear and you can carry them without having to pay the baggage fees. This tip also applies to shoes since they do not compress well in bags and still take up a lot of room inside an airplane’s cargo hold.

You don’t need to bring your entire wardrobe collection or winter set of clothes to another country. Only bring items that you need and only pack the essentials. Since this is an airplane, there should be no reason why you can’t buy other clothing during your layover if necessary.

Pack Lighter Electronics

If you are traveling for business or pleasure, chances are you have a lot of electronics in your bags, such as a laptop, phone, and tablet. These items are usually the heaviest in your luggage so try to find ways to lighten their load. For example, you can leave your laptop charger at home and just charge it up once you reach your destination or bring an e-reader instead of packing a bunch of books.

Learn How to Fold Neatly

If you know the trick to folding clothes so that they take up less space, then your luggage will be significantly lighter. There are plenty of online tutorials and videos on how to do this properly, or you can ask a friend for help. Just make sure all your clothes are tightly packed, and there is no extra air inside the suitcase.

Bring Only Two Pairs of Everything

lugageIf we’re talking about short trips that are probably five days max, then you probably won’t need more than two pairs of everything. That means two t-shirts, two pairs of pants, two pairs of undies, and so on. This tip is especially useful for anyone who can wear the same shirt or pair of jeans twice without washing them in between uses.

Most of us like the convenience of flying, but we don’t like to pay extra baggage fees. By following these tips and tricks, you can reduce the number of things that you take on board your flight without sacrificing comfort or safety.
